Spend a season, Venturing Out Spring 2013!


Venturing Out is an informal performance series presented by jhon r. stronks | “there… in the sunlight.” Contemporary Dance and Rednerrus Feil Dance Company. Each Venture features a pre performance discussion/mixer with the Venturing Choreographers followed by a “Venturing Out” choreographic showing and a food and wine post performance reception to round out the evening. With one price for all three features (Mixer, Performance, and Reception) you can choose your own (ad)venture by attending all three or just one 

Tickets: 10$ Cash at the door and available online by date.

Description:

Venturing Out … an informal performance series intended to provide an opportunity for dance and performance based artists to present work without the pressure of full production. Anything from completed and previously performed works to works in progress are welcome, artists come to promote their up coming performances or to simply play, share, learn, offer.

Artist Bios:

Shanon Adams  has had the privilege of mingling/conspiring with the likes of Leslie Scates, Amy Ell, Daniel Adame, Ashley Horn, Stephen Koplowitz, Tino Sehgal, Jim Nolan, Linda Post, Sarah Draper, Catastrophic Theater, Tamarie Cooper, Freneticore Dance Theater, and Suchu Dance.  She has shown her work at The Freneticore Fringe Festival, The Foundry and The Artery.

Rebekah Chappell is from Williamsburg, Virginia.  She graduated summa cum laude with a BFA in dance from Shenandoah University in 2009. After graduating college, she married her wonderful husband, Nick, and they moved to Costa Rica.  There, she performed solo work while teaching and choreographing at Danceworks Costa Rica and Promethean Spark: Danza par la vida.   She has had the delight of working with Jennifer Wood, Karen Stokes, Sandra Organ, Stephen Koplowitz, Roxanne Claire, and Ashley Horn since moving to Houston in 2011.  Rebekah teaches at San Jacinto College South and Claire School of Dance.  http://rebekahchappell.weebly.com/

Laura Gutierrez is a native Houstonian where she studied and graduated from the High School for the Performing and Visual Arts and trained at Uptown Dance Centre. Ms. Gutierrez received her BFA in contemporary dance from the University of North Carolina School of the Arts. She has performed works by Trish Casey, Brenda Daniels,Lar Lubovitch, Sara Skaggs, Jonah Boaker ,Janis Brenner, Molly Shanahan and Take Ueyama. She was a recipient of a 2009-2010 William R. Kenan, Jr. Performing Arts Fellowship at the Lincoln Center Institute where she presented her choreography at the Clark Theater. Since returning to Houston, she has worked with Sophia Torres and Sonia Noriega and was a part of Texas Weekend of Contemporary Dance and Big Range Dance Festival. Currently she is on Adjunct Faculty at HSPVA and works as the Office manager at Hope Stone, Inc.

Jasmine Hearn is a native Houstonian. She graduated from Point Park University with her B.A. in Dance. Jasmine currently lives in Pittsburgh. She currently moves with the Staycee Pearl dance project (PGH), Marjani Forte (NYC) and anonymous bodies (PHIL).  Her choreography has premiered in the Pittsburgh area.  

Ashley Horn has shown choreography and films at U of H, Big Range Dance Festival, Texas Weekend of Contemporary Dance, Third Coast Dance on Film Festival, and Houston Fringe Festival, among others.  She has created costumes for FrenetiCore, Frame Dance Productions, Sol Y Luna, and her own works.   Ashley recently directed a full-length dance film, Wanderland.

Danielle Angela Flores Koblinski is Del Rio, Texas, She is a graduate from the University of Houston with a Bachelors of Art in Dance minoring in Mexican-American studies. Danielle focuses her work based on what she knows, has lived, and has studied; concentrating on issues such as the Mexican and Mexican-American culture, experience, traditions, religion, social & political issues, and immigration.

Cori Miller graduated with her B.F.A. in Dance from the University of Texas at Austin; she is an arts administrator having worked at notable organizations like Dance New Amsterdam, Danspace Project, and Baryshinkov Arts Center. She recently presented her own work in the 2012  Big Range Dance and Houston Fringe Festivals. Currently, she is the Production Manager for Hope Stone Inc.
Heather Nabors is the Assistant Director of Dance Programs at Rice University and serves as the Artistic Director of Rice Dance Theater. An experienced educator, Heather has served on the faculty of Greensboro College, Catawba College, Elon University, and The University of North Carolina at Greensboro teaching jazz, tap, modern, and choreography. Since 2007, Heather has worked as a freelance musical theater choreographer for City Arts Drama and area high schools in NC. She has choreographed over fourteen musicals including Rent, Oklahoma, The King & I, Legally Blonde, Little Shop of Horrors, Anything Goes, and Children of Eden. www.heathernabors.com
Jacqueline Nalett is in the middle of a life long love affair with dance. There is still much to be discovered by her on this journey as she didn't discover dance until age 18. Before that she was a nerd, an artist and a homeless chick. Nowadays she is still nerdy and artsy, but mainly she teaches dance and shapes it on herself and on others and plans on doing all this for a long, long time. She is half French, has an artsy daughter, a multi-ethnic family and is originally from Maryland.

Founded in 1998, innovative, imaginative, theatrical and daring, Psophonia Dance Company (PDC) explores ideas and images through a kinetic language that engages audiences of all ages. The Houston based company is recognized for its ability to engage diverse audiences on a truly unique level by utilizing everyday objects, sounds, and technology to re-examine and transform the familiar into new territory of discovery and infinite possibility. Psophonia has produced numerous concerts featuring over 40 original works for both intimate spaces and grand theater. Beyond Houston, Psophonia has performed at the Latino Cultural Center in Dallas, TX; Cincy Fringe Festival in Cincinnati, OH; Chicago Dance Festival, Chicago, IL and The Moody Gardens in Galveston, TX. Psophonia has nurtured collaborations with other arts organizations and independent artists and has received support from the Houston Arts Alliance, Houston Endowment, Inc., corporate grants and individual donors. www.psophonia.com

Rednerrus Feil Dance Company Founded in 2006 by Artistic Director, Amy Llanes, RFDC strives to produce high quality performance art based on emotive life experiences. We delight in exploring how the meaning of movement can reveal the personal nature of our own histories.
